About

Stoatly Different is the home of my eLearning blog.  I’m Ben Betts and currently I work as Operations Director for HT2 Ltd, a UK based eLearning and organisational development company.

Many eLearning blogs are kept by people working in the academic sector or those who are independant eLearning consultants.  I am writing very much from the commerical point of view.  That said I’m also a Research Engineer at Warwick Manufacturing Group’s Digital Lab.  There I am currently studying for an EngD (Doctor of Engineering), studying the role of new technology for learning within corporate environments.  The EngD is slightly different to a PhD, in that it seeks to produce a commercially viable product, not just pure research.  So even when I’m being an academic, I’m still doing it for the money!

I worked on my first eLearning project 10 years ago (Social Accountability at Warwick Business School – oh it was good!) at the age of 16.  I attempted to migrate from eLearning to website design, where I ran my own company subsequent to attending Exeter University.  But I got pulled back into eLearning and my current position at HT2.  Subsequently I gained my MBA from University of Liverpool, thanks to HT2’s sponsorship.

At HT2 we try to bring together the concept of Hi-tech and Hi-touch and I’ve been responsible for some sizable eLearning projects being delivered to some sizable organisations over the last 10 years, both in the UK and abroad.

I started this blog to collect my thoughts for the EngD and to test out some theories, mostly to see what kind of response they generate.  I’ll be aiming to put some contraversial and opinionated thoughts down on the page, so please don’t think that these reflect the opinions and thoughts of my company, they are mine alone!
